Talc is a naturally occurring mineral that is extensively used in the industrial sector. It is also known as talcum powder, which is made up of hydrated magnesium silicate, which has the formula Mg3Si4O10 (OH)2. This mineral is used as a lubricant and thickener. Ceramics, paint, and roofing materials all contain it as a component.

Talc is well-known for its softness, whiteness, and absorbency of wetness. It is used in many sectors, including papermaking, plastics, ceramics, and paint manufacturing. Additionally, it is used as a filler in the paper business to improve the brightness, opacity, and smoothness of the paper. Also, used as a coating agent to enhance the printing quality of the paper.

Talc’s softness makes it an excellent filler for plastics, where it is used to improve the stiffness and impact resilience of the plastic. Talc is used as a flux in ceramics production to lower the firing temperature and increase thermal shock resistance.

Furthermore, Soapstone is used as an extender in the paint business to improve the hiding power and weather resistance of the paint. hence, it is also used as a flatting agent to decrease paint gloss.
